Hi there~ We have a super Spirit Week planned for next week around the theme: I LOVE FLORIDA! Please see the flyer for details. Don't forget to send us your pictures!

Freddie and Fiarella's High Five Adventures

Have you noticed the page on the right named Freddie and Fiarella's High Five Adventures? It is an ongoing story in which a new portion is added each day. There are also grammar, punctuation and spelling mistakes hidden in each section for you to uncover! So grab a notebook and begin writing the story along with us! As you are getting to know the main characters, Freddie and Fiarella, you are probably developing a mental picture of what these two flamingo students look like. We are looking for an illustrator for our story. Check out this flyer for more details!

Becoming a Junior Audubon

Hi everyone,
I have been looking for new things to do around my house and yard. We have had been such beautiful weather! I feel very lucky to live in Florida. With this quarantine and staying home, I have found it really good for my mindset to sit outside a little bit each day. While out there I have noticed a lot of different birds and I started wondering about them. I am a BIG wonderer! Well I found an app called Merlin Bird App and downloaded it to my phone. I love it! (Always ask your parents before doing anything on the internet) I created a recording form you might find helpful to use while observing. You can download it here Recording Form

Greetings Flamingos!

Hope you had a happy Wednesday and enjoyed bringing your pets and/or stuffed animals to school today!  It was fun bringing my two cats, Bella and Maya, to a few of my Google Meets.  I truly think my furry family members enjoy having us around the house these days.

Thursday's Spirit Day is APPRECIATION DAY!  I cannot wait to see all the pictures, letters, and words of encouragement that our students will draw/write to our First Responders during this time.  Show us what you have done through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or Emails!

Enjoy the evening! Be Well.
MISS YOU ALL,

Hi everyone! Did you know that there is power in our words? We can teach people new things and we can always continue to learn no matter how old we are. Ms. Theissen shared this awesome How-To writing on how to tie your shoes. Notice how the pictures match the words and it is broken down into each specific step? Sometimes I don't know how to spell a word and that's okay. I just stretch the sounds out and put the letters I hear. It's just important that I get my thoughts down on paper.
After reading this I began to reflect on all of the things I have learned since being in quarantine and how maybe I could teach those things to others. I have learned a lot about online learning and using Google Classroom and Google Meets. I have learned how to bake some new recipes. I have learned how to sit quietly and observe nature and so many more things. When I didn't know how to do something and needed to learn, I either read a book about it or watched a video. Now I can write How-To books on all of these things! What have you learned? Can you teach someone "How-To?"

Rise & Shine!

Happy Thursday.  Wishing all of our families a Happy Passover if you celebrate it.

Did you know that setting a routine for your day is so important?  We may be in our homes and learning online, but you should still stick to a routine schedule.  Set your alarms, get dressed, "go" to work/school, & use the time in the evening to be with your families or exercise.  This structured routine allows you to function and be more alert.  If you stay up late, wake up late, don't change out of your PJs.... well, we all know how that goes... LAZY DAY!  So, if you already have a structured routine- keep it up, but if you don't- it is time to make that a priority!

Make it a HIGH 5 day & start on that routine.
Miss you all,
Mrs. Schreiber

April 8, 2020

Hello Flamingos!  We are happy to have our blog up and running.  Thank you to Mrs. Schwarz for getting it started and organizing it for us.

Today is such a beautiful day and it just reminds me about walking around campus seeing your happy smiles, hearing your laughter, watching you learn, or playing at recess.  Take some time today to be out in the sun... soak up some Vitamin D and get outside!  Sometimes it is so easy to stay inside, do your online work, join a google meet, watch some tv, and/or cuddle with your pet... however, it is important to get outside and move!!

What do you like to do when you are outside?  Maybe play, ride a bike, jog, garden, or walk the dog?
Can't wait to see all the things you are doing to enjoy the SUNSHINE!

Welcome to our blog!

Hello Calusa students and families! We want to welcome you to our blog where we will be posting fun and educational videos, shout-outs, activities and current events happening around our online Calusa Learning Community. Please invite others to follow this blog, as we look to reach out to everyone as we encourage each other and do life together:)

Today you will see a video of me reading a book to our puppy, Beau. What type of reading are you doing to pass the time? Do you have pets (or stuffed animals) willing to listen to you read a favorite book?

Congratulations to the 5th Grade Class of 2020 from Calusa Elementary!  We are proud of your accomplishments and hope you enjoy the Moving ...
